Known ("we", "us") helps you track what you own — recalls, return windows, and expiration dates — from your shopping receipts. This policy explains what we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.
Known is 100% independent. We take no money from brands or retailers, show no ads, and never sell or share your data for marketing. Our only revenue is the optional Known Plus subscription — so the only person we work for is you.
What we collect
- Receipt photos and PDFs you upload. We process them to read the text on the receipt. The extracted item list is saved; the original photo is not retained after processing.
- Your item list. Product names, brands, categories, prices, and the dates we compute from them (return deadline, estimated expiry, warranty).
- Email address — only if you choose to sign in to sync your items across devices. You can use Known without an account.
- An anonymous device identifier we generate to keep your items attached to your device.
How we use it
- To build and maintain your item list.
- To check your items daily against official U.S. CPSC recall announcements.
- To compute return, expiry, and warranty dates for your items.
- To email you a sign-in link, and to alert you when one of your items is recalled.
What we share — and with whom
- AI text processing. The text extracted from your receipt (not the photo) is sent to an AI service to identify the purchased items.
- Recall lookups. Product names are matched against the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission's public recall database.
- Email delivery. Sign-in links and recall alerts are delivered through a transactional email provider (Resend).
We do not sell your data, show ads, or share your information with anyone for marketing.
Retention and deletion
- You can delete any item — or all expired items — inside the app at any time.
- To delete your account and every item attached to it, email us at support@keepknown.app and we will remove your data within 30 days.
Security
Data is transferred over encrypted connections and stored with access limited to the operation of the service.
Children
Known is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.
Changes
If this policy changes, we will update this page and the date above. Material changes will be announced in the app.
