The Home Depot return policy: how many days you have
Most Home Depot purchases can be returned within 90 days with proof of purchase. Some categories have a 30-day or shorter window, and Home Depot credit card holders get a longer window on most items.
| What | Window |
|---|---|
| Most items | 90 days with proof of purchase, in store or online. |
| Home Depot credit cards | The store advertises an extended return period (up to 365 days) for purchases made on The Home Depot Consumer, Pro Xtra and Commercial credit cards on most items; confirm the current terms on the official page. |
| 30 days | Furniture, gas-powered equipment and tractors, generators, consumer electronics (TVs, computers), paint sprayers, area rugs, and similar categories listed on the official page. |
| Factory-sealed only | Dehumidifiers, gas pressure washers, window and portable air conditioners and most gas generators must be unused in sealed packaging; a mid-2026 update put pumps, portable evaporative coolers and portable heaters on a 7-day list. |
| Major appliances | Inspect on delivery; damage or defects must be reported within 48 hours. |
| Paint | 30-day Color Satisfaction Guarantee with the receipt. |
| Not returnable | Custom products such as blinds and Design Center orders; labor, delivery and installation services. |

Tip
Without a receipt the store asks for a government ID and may refund as store credit.
Holiday returns 2026
Home Depot has not published holiday extensions in past years; the 90-day window applies year round. Holiday decor is usually limited to 30 days unused. The Home Depot holiday return policy →
